Assembly Bill (AB-2880) - Training and State Fees Increased for Security Guards.

To obtain a BSIS Guard Card and start working as a Security Officer an 8 hours course must be completed before a Security Guard application can be submitted to the BSIS along with a copy of a completed Live Scan.

Your complete Security Officer Training is 40 hours of combined CALSAGA courses starting with the 8 hrs basic guard card training, followed with 16 hrs of mandatory courses, and 16 hrs of elective courses to be completed within the first 6 months to keep your guard card active for 2 years.

Training Hours Needed Prior to Being Assigned on Post      8 Hours
               Within the First Month must complete                    16 Hours
               Within the First Six Months must complete             16 Hours
                                     TOTAL HOURS of TRAINING          40 HRS

Note:  No other courses beyond the 40 hrs training are mandated by the BSIS to become a security officer.  Additional training “may be required” by your future/present employer but not mandated by the BSIS.  e.g.; First Aid, Baton, Handcuffing, and Firearms training, etc.

Most courses consist of videos, lectures, bookwork, and hands-on practical training application to greatly improve the student’s competence and performance.
